Canadian Orthodontic Guidelines Recommend a Child's First Evaluation at Age 7

Early evaluation can catch bite and jaw issues while they are simpler to address, says North York orthodontist Dr. Pablo Kimos.

By age 7, most children have a mix of baby and permanent teeth and their first permanent molars have come in — giving an orthodontist enough information to spot crowding, spacing or bite concerns early, often before they are visible to parents. An early visit is an assessment, not an automatic start to treatment: many children simply return for periodic monitoring as their teeth and jaws develop.
